What is an FFL?
FFL stands for Federal Firearms License. Established to implement the Federal Firearms Act of 1938, there are several types of FFLs, covering various aspects of firearm transaction. All firearm manufacturers and dealers who ship or receive guns require an FFL to conduct business.
Shooting is one of America’s favorite hobbies. It can take on many forms, including casual target practice, hunting, school trapshooting sports, advanced competitive shooting and firearm education. No matter the discipline, there is always that ‘first time’ that someone gets to handle and use a firearm. So what things should you bear in mind when you consider becoming a participant in the shooting arts?
We all know that pawn shops, ours included, deal in many common commodities. There are firearms, coins, jewelry, tools, home electronics, car audio and many other products you would expect to find at a pawn shop. But one of the most interesting things is that our inventory is always in motion, and by the very nature of a business like this, we sometimes come across unique items that do not fit into our general product categorization.
When looking for various firearms, most have a fairly defined scope of operations. A long range, high powered rifle is specifically tasked with hitting targets at great distances. A semi-automatic pistol finds its purpose in close quarters encounters, such as law enforcement and personal protection. Rimfire rifles reign supreme in varmint control and target practice. Within each category, there are obviously some varied applications, but in general, you don’t hunt deer with a Glock nor do you plink rodents with a .338 Lapua tactical sniper rifle.
The modern pawn shop is a unique institution in today’s business world. It is a place where you can get a quick loan for items of value, or quick cash for items you wish to sell. You can also shop a robust and varied inventory of merchandise at remarkable prices.
Being able to defend your family within your home in the worst case scenario such as armed robbery or home invasion is critical. The hope is to never find yourself or your loved ones in such a situation, but if you do, are you prepared?
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed..." - Thomas Jefferson
These carefully crafted words define the natural rights of American citizenry to self-defense and resistance to oppression, internal or external, and the civic duty to act in the defense of the state should that become necessary.
Firearms are generally not inexpensive. They are an investment in personal security, any number of shooting sports, and your 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. Depending on the firearm, they can range from several hundreds to several thousands of dollars. If well taken care of, they hold their value and last a lifetime or more, as evident from specimens that may have been around during World War I and still function flawlessly today.
If you have ever stood in the ammunition aisle of your favorite firearms dealer and wondered which of the many choices are best for your particular gun, you are not alone. Not only is there a variety of brands, there is also a diverse range of specs – different bullet weights, various bullet types, specific primers, brass or steel cases – the list goes on.
With the arrival of Spring, everyone is feeling that urge to get out of the house! After being snow and ice-bound for months thanks to our Minnesota weather, it’s time to feel warmth and sunshine and put away our snow shovels. With the new season come various activities that we can enjoy without being bundled up in a winter parka. Gardening, biking, fishing, golfing, working on outdoor projects, heading out to the range, boating or perhaps just taking a drive through the countryside with your windows open and the tunes rocking! Whatever the calling, we are just as excited about being done with winter as you are!
