‘Tis the Season!

If any of the drains in your home seem to clog repeatedly, that’s not normal, and you need to investigate why it’s happening. Generally, when household drains seem like they’re always slow or totally clogged, it’s because household members repeatedly allow things to flow into the drains that don’t belong there. Damaged plumbing can be a culprit, too, but more often than not, the problem is caused by user neglect.

Snow Blowers at Metro Pawn & Gun

So far, we have only seen a thin layer of morning frost and maybe a few snowflakes here in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas – neither of which amounted to anything. But winter is a long way from over, and just because we are not buried in two feet of snow does not mean we are out of the woods.

Winter is Coming

Summer in Minnesota can be delightful, with beautiful scenery, many outdoor activities and generally great weather. But as night follows day, winter usually comes upon us quickly and with little ceremony. Soon enough we’ll be driving past festive Christmas decorations in snow-covered neighborhoods, shoveling our vehicles out of their parking spots, and slipping along icy roads during our daily commutes. Winter is a welcomed season for skiers, snowmobilers and other aficionados of such outdoor activities, but perhaps less enjoyable for those of us who need to dig ourselves out of our driveways before we can get to work.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all! Hopefully 2021 will be a good year for everyone. This last year brought us its share of drama, including a pandemic, lockdowns, civil unrest, economic hardships and consumer product shortages to name a few. Many aspects of normal life simply got “cancelled”. Zoom meetings have replaced traditional gatherings, academics are conducted remotely, stores have more traffic signage than our highways, and now we only get to see people’s eyes out in public. Remember the mad run on toilet paper, or unscrupulous folks price-gouging on hand sanitizer? Still waiting for a second round of stimulus checks, only 8 months after the first payments? And most of us still can’t find ammunition today… It has to get better, right? We don’t know about you, but we’re ready to say goodbye to 2020 and a hopeful hello to 2021!

Getting ready for winter

Minnesota is a place where winter might not really get going until January or February, but we might also get buried in early November. Our temperatures can be pretty mild, or we can plunge into sub-zero weather for weeks at a time. The Twin Cities and surrounding areas are no stranger to an abundance of snow and ice, so getting ready before the winter wonderland arrives is wise.

Supporting Local Business

The negative economic impact resulting from events that have transpired within the last six months has been tremendous. An unprecedented closure of the economy has caused irreparable harm to small businesses across the country, forcing many to shutter their doors for good. Unemployment rose higher in three months of COVID-19 than it did in two years of the Great Recession. Yet despite the pandemic, Amazon doubled its net profit year over year to $5.2 billion, compared to $2.6 billion at this time in 2019. So what’s wrong with this picture?

Spring is almost here!

Thursday, March 19th marks the official start of spring in 2020. Typically this correlates with the vernal equinox, which is the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator. While this may be what meteorologists and calendars tell you, whether or not it will actually feel like spring in Minnesota on this date is yet to be seen. But one thing is certain – winter is on its way out.

Thinking about gifts for the Christmas season?

The gift-giving traditions of the Christmas season can be trying at times. If you have many people to shop for, each with multiple ideas of their holiday wish lists, it can quickly become a full blown shopping adventure. Are you up to the challenge of braving black Friday crowds at the mall or other retail venues? Do you want to endure the long lines, parking hassles, or coming up empty because the item you wanted just sold out? Even with online retail being a part of how we shop these days, it still comes with its own set of issues. Will the gift you ordered arrive in time? Will it make it through the delivery process without damage?

What Makes our Pawn Shop so Interesting?

We all know that pawn shops, ours included, deal in many common commodities. There are firearms, coins, jewelry, tools, home electronics, car audio and many other products you would expect to find at a pawn shop. But one of the most interesting things is that our inventory is always in motion, and by the very nature of a business like this, we sometimes come across unique items that do not fit into our general product categorization.
