So what’s the deal with guns and ammo being so hard to find? In the past, even with administrations that were unfriendly to the 2nd Amendment, there has never been such a pronounced shortage of product in the firearms market as there is today. Why? The answer is two-fold:   The pandemic and its collateral effects have stressed supply chain and manufacturing capacity, and demand has risen to unprecedented levels due to heightened social and political tension nationwide. A perfect storm – supply is depressed and demand is through the roof.

During the Vista Outdoor quarterly earnings call last month, CEO Christopher Metz said “We currently have over a year’s worth of orders for ammunition in excess of $1 billion. This is unprecedented for our company. With demand far outstripping supply and inventory levels in the channel at all-time lows, we see strong demand continuing…” From these and other industry statements, it appears as though ammunition will continue to be scare well into 2021.

According to data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, there were 6.2 million new shooters in 2020.  Shooting ranges are booked solid and firearm safety courses are backlogged across the country as never before. In Virginia for example, from January to October of 2020, law enforcement officials say a total of 650,880 people underwent a background check to receive a
firearm. That is nearly 200,000 more than in all of 2019! Such situations are echoed across the country, and gun store shelves remain empty as demand continues to outpace supply by a vast margin.

People see a storm coming, and it seems to be more than just some idle anti-gun legislation designed to appease certain special interests. The very fabric of our nation appears to be at stake, and many see the 2
nd Amendment as the only insurance for the preservation of life, liberty and the American narrative.
