The Venerable Revolver

A revolver is defined as a repeating handgun that has a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers for ammunition and at a barrel for firing. The rounds may be fired by cocking a hammer manually for each shot or by pulling the trigger rearward repetitively to advance the revolving cylinder. These mechanics are known as single-action or double-action. Single-action revolvers can only be fired by cocking the hammer and then releasing it with the trigger. Single/double action revolvers still have an exposed hammer that can be cocked, facilitating either style of shooting, while others enclose the mechanism entirely in the body of the firearm, making them double-action only. It comes down to a matter of preference mostly, but having the single-action capability is typically favored by people who hunt or shoot competitively, as it take far less effort to drop the hammer with the trigger than having to pull the trigger through both phases of the action.

Vintage and Replica Firearms

Imagine owning an original MP 40 (Maschinenpistole 40) - a submachine gun developed in Germany and used extensively by the Axis powers during the Second World War. Well, not many people can, unless you have $10,000 or more to spend on one, not to mention that even finding one can be next to impossible! Or perhaps a US M1 Garand, which was the standard service rifle of the American Infantry during the same world conflict. Although not as rare as the venerable MP40, finding one in pristine condition will also set you back a bit financially. To round out a trio of iconic firearms, the Russian Mosin-Nagant was a bolt-action rifle developed from 1882 to 1891 that saw service by the armed forces of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and various other nations. Fortunately for collectors, hobby shooters and history buffs, the Mosin-Nagant can still be acquired in the surplus markets with relative ease and without a second mortgage.

Revolver vs. Semi-Auto

A revolver is a type of handgun that has a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers for cartridges and a barrel for firing them. Each time the trigger is pulled, the cylinder advances to the next chamber and the round is fired. Depending on caliber, most revolvers have a capacity of anywhere from 5 to 10 rounds of ammunition. Once all rounds are expended, the cylinder can be flipped open to extract the spent casings and insert new ammunition.

Understanding the Pawn Process

“Pawning” is a process in which you bring an item into the pawn shop in exchange for a cash loan. For example, you might pawn a gold ring as collateral for a $150 loan. If you repay the loan by a predetermined date, you can retrieve your gold ring. The loan repayment amount will include interest and fees that are typically regulated by the state. You also have the option to extend the repayment time frame, although this will incur continuing interest. If you fail to repay the money on time, the pawn shop takes ownership of the ring and can offer it for resale. A large percentage of pawned items are reclaimed by their owners, but some are forfeited and thus provide inventory for the pawn shop to sell. Pawn shops also purchase items outright to resell, which is another way to provide clients with the cash they need and to acquire inventory for the store.
