Perhaps you once collected coins, but no longer have the time or interest in continuing to do so. Maybe you’ve inherited a collection from a relative, but it’s not something that you’re into. Or possibly the focus of your collecting has changed, such as from U.S. coins to world coins. Whatever the case, you can turn what has fallen by the wayside into cash today.

We are always interested in rare coins and coin collections at Metro Pawn & Gun. What may have lost its appeal to you might be the start of a new hobby for an aspiring collector, or make the perfect recurring gift for a family member. Collectors are always looking for that special coin they may be missing, or to expand the breadth of their collection as a whole.

Here are a few things to bear in mind if you’re thinking about pawning or selling coins:

Do some research on the history and possible value of your coins. Although we try to stay knowledgeable about coinage in general, the sheer diversity of what’s out there makes it impossible to know everything. Knowing as much as you can about your coins could help the overall narrative when reaching a deal, and it also gives you some idea of how much you should ask for and what you should agree to sell for. If your coins have been graded by a professional at some point, that’s even better. It provides a tangible fact from which to begin the discussion.

Never, ever clean you coins! Cleaning a coin could alter the condition and actually hurt its value tremendously. Abrasive cleaners and solvents could eliminate the very history that makes a particular coin unique, and can even damage the surface. You will receive the best offer for a coin that is ‘original’ in every sense of the word. Don’t be the person that comes in with a rare Civil War musket that was re-blued to make it look nice, only to find out that having done so rendered it worthless!

Metro Pawn & Gun loves coins! Each one is a fragment of history that you can hold in your hand. Each one has a story to tell, and each one is a mystery at the same time. Where has it been? Who once had it in their pocket? What events was it a part of?  We invite you to stop in and dive into history – share your story – and possible leave with some newly printed cash!
